As these neighborhoods have the city’s highest concentration of Hollywood celebrity homes, you will discover why Palm Springs has the reputation of being the Playground of the Stars. Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, Janet Leigh & Tony Curtis, Debbie Reynolds, and Elizabeth Taylor are just some of the many celebrity residents. As we drive by some of our city’s architectural jewels, you will see how Palm Springs became the epicenter of midcentury modern architecture. You may choose to stop in front of some properties. The visual feast of these well-manicured neighborhoods will also demonstrate why this city continues to be a vibrant 21st century community.
Architectural Gems: This directed driving tour covers our most important civic structures and 7 distinctive neighborhoods. You drive in your vehicle, and a knowledgeable guide will lead and explain the unique architectural features of each area and the fascinating history of the residents who lived here. You will view masterpieces in a variety of architectural styles—Spanish Colonial Revival, Midcentury Modern, Contemporary Modern, among others. We stop at numerous points of interest to see some of these “crown jewels” designed by our most renowned architects. The stunning Kaufmann House, the impressive Art Museum, the dramatic St. Theresa Catholic Church, and the unique City Hall are just some of the architectural treasures which will amaze you.
